Once again, Hoàng Thùy Linh takes inspiration from folklore culture combined with modern style to tell a story about a modern girl in love.
Thúy Kiều is the main character in the famous epic poem “The Tale of Kieu” by Nguyen Du. The poem is translated to many languages in the world, recounting the life, trials, and tribulations of Thúy Kiều, a beautiful and talented young woman, who has to limit herself due to social prejudice.
Hoàng Thùy Linh borrowed Thúy Kiều’s image to completely describe the opposite image. The girl is not a traditional woman like Thúy Kiều – gentle, shy, and always afraid. She is not afraid of anything, and not going to spend her youth for those who don’t deserve her love. She won’t wait and stupidly chase someone who doesn’t appreciate her.
The girl has desires and aspirations and doesn’t want to be “locked up” in restrictive prejudices or passively entrusting her happiness to others.
The song is an encouragement to girls to live for their life and not waste time on someone who doesn’t love them. With the meaningful lyrics and catchy melodies, the song gained over 11 million views after nine months of release.
