In Ninh Binh, the dialect is a mix of Northern and Southern dialects. It’s similar to Hanoi’s dialect in that it has a lot of “l” sounds (in contrast to the Southern dialect that uses “n” sounds).
The northern Vietnamese province of Ninh Binh is often overlooked by travelers. But it shouldn’t be!
Ninh Binh has a lot to offer: the beautiful Trang An limestone karsts, the spectacular Tam Coc cave system, the historic Mua Cave, and the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.
One thing I’d say is that it’s not necessarily overlooked by travelers, but most travelers who visit don’t spend as much time there as they should. The area around Tam Coc and Trang An is absolutely beautiful, and quite unlike anywhere else in the world.

Ninh Binh is a beautiful and underrated city in central Vietnam. It’s known as the “Ha Long Bay on Land,” because of its incredible rock formations, but it’s much less crowded than Ha Long Bay, and you can get there more easily by train.
I was in Ninh Binh, Vietnam and I agree it’s an underrated gem!
I went to Ha Long Bay as well and thought that Ninh Binh was much more beautiful. I also had an easier time getting there by train, which saved me lots of time and money.
